Large-size welded steel elbows are manufactured by rolling steel plates into arc segments followed by circumferential welding. After forming, corresponding heat treatment procedures such as normalizing, tempering or solution annealing are carried out to eliminate residual stress caused by plastic deformation, refine grain structure and improve material toughness. Butt weld steel elbows are processed with standard welding bevels on both ends to realize full penetration connection with matching straight steel pipes. All finished steel elbows undergo strict quality inspection, including dimensional tolerance measurement, wall thickness detection, surface visual check and ultrasonic non-destructive testing, aiming to identify defects such as local wall thinning, wrinkles and microcracks on bending sections.

Carbon steel elbows are vulnerable to oxidation and rust when exposed to humid or corrosive media, so surface anti-corrosion treatment such as painting or coating is required. Stainless steel elbows can resist common corrosion but face risks of pitting corrosion in high-chloride environments. Alloy steel elbows demand standardized welding processes with necessary preheating and post-heat treatment. In addition, the curved part sustains continuous medium scouring. Pipelines conveying particle-containing media should prioritize long radius steel elbows, and proper pipe supports need to be arranged nearby to share dynamic loads and avoid stress concentration on joints.
