Carbon steel tee is one of the most common and cost-effective pipe fittings applied in industrial piping systems. Functioning to divert, converge and distribute fluid media, it creates three-way connections for pipelines. Carbon steel tees can be divided into seamless carbon steel tees and butt weld carbon steel tees according to manufacturing methods. Thanks to balanced mechanical performance and competitive price, carbon steel tees occupy a dominant position in general engineering fluid transportation projects all over the world.

The primary raw material for carbon steel tees is carbon structural steel. The typical material grade is A234 WPB, which is widely acknowledged by international pipeline standards. Other optional grades include WP12 and WP22 for special high-temperature working environments. Produced in compliance with ASME B16.9, GB/T 12459 and other specifications, carbon steel tees have two mainstream structures: equal tee and reducing tee. Equal carbon steel tees feature the same diameter on the main run and branch for even flow distribution. Reducing carbon steel tees come with a smaller branch port, realizing flow separation and diameter transition at the same time to satisfy complicated pipeline layout requirements.

The mainstream forming processes contain hot extrusion, hydraulic bulging and hot forging. For seamless carbon steel tees, manufacturers process complete steel pipe blanks into integrated three-way structures without welding seams. Butt weld carbon steel tees are formed through hot forming and equipped with standard welding bevels for on-site butt welding. After forming, finished products go through normalized or tempered heat treatment to remove internal stress, refine metal grain structure and enhance toughness and pressure resistance. Strict quality inspection procedures are implemented, including dimension measurement, visual examination and non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic inspection to eliminate internal defects like cracks and inclusions.

Carbon steel tees possess remarkable comprehensive advantages. First of all, they deliver excellent tensile strength, impact resistance and pressure bearing capacity, suitable for medium temperature and medium pressure pipeline conditions. Compared with stainless steel and alloy steel fittings, carbon steel tees have obvious cost advantages, which helps enterprises control overall engineering investment. Meanwhile, carbon steel materials feature convenient welding performance. Construction teams can finish reliable connection with ordinary welding techniques. One noticeable characteristic is that carbon steel is prone to oxidation and rust. Therefore, surface anti-corrosion treatment is necessary, such as black paint coating, anti-rust oil, galvanization or epoxy coating according to actual service environments.

This type of tee has extensive application coverage. It is widely used in crude oil and natural gas transmission pipelines, thermal power heating systems, urban water supply and drainage networks, sewage treatment projects, chemical factories and building fire protection piping systems. Carbon steel tees are ideal for transporting water, steam, compressed air, fuel oil and non-corrosive liquid media. However, they are not recommended for pipelines conveying strong acid, strong alkali and heavily corrosive substances unless complete anti-corrosion lining treatment is carried out.
